Vacuum Visualization – Dance of the Void
2022
This project draws an aesthetic form from real quantum randomness in a vacuum. Using 3D software, Ren creates a "dance of the void," echoing the way the Hubble palette gives color to an otherwise elusive universe. The work uses human-scale technology and aesthetics to approach a realm that bodily senses cannot register.
Classical physics defines a vacuum as empty space without matter or photons. Quantum physics describes the same space as a sea of virtual particles that emerge and disappear through random, unpredictable fluctuations. This uncertainty carries a philosophical beauty: a primordial dance that recalls the tremor of life in a prebiotic soup.
Ren draws live data from the Australian National University's Quantum Random Numbers server. True random numbers drive particles in a 3D environment, producing a moving-image simulation of the vacuum's invisible fluctuations.
