Energy-Sucking Babies

Energy-Sucking Babies is an interactive public artwork created at the invitation of Adidas Originals.

The new generation of children born in 2000 grew up in an era of surplus goods. Society is understood as a product of the commercial world order, and the relationship between people and clothing forms an empire of imitation and summoning.

The fabric in the work comes from discarded children’s clothing that could not be sold; some garments had only barely visible stains, yet their only fate was to be thrown away. These garments draw on electrical energy like children feeding frantically at the breast, and spring back when touched, like stranded, desperate fish. They are absurd.

Through this metaphorical humor, the work satirizes the waste of resources under the commercial structures of consumerism, a phenomenon that is rarely mentioned yet worrying.
